About the Fairness Institute of Australia
The Fairness Institute of Australia Pty Ltd (FIOA) was established in 2018 as a small, Australian-owned and operated family business.
As a fourth-generation Australian family, the founders recognised that one of the most deeply valued qualities in Australian society is fairness. Yet, like all societies, there is always more that can be done to make life fairer, simpler, and more transparent for everyone. The founders identified a gap in Australian public and commercial life: the absence of an independent body focused specifically on examining and promoting fairness across both business and community settings.
Unfairness can take many forms, and the FIOA believes that an impartial organisation is needed; one capable of quickly assessing concerns raised by customers, business owners, employees, and suppliers through an independent review of fairness principles established by the FIOA.
Unlike traditional business reviews or online comments (moment-in-time snapshot), the FIOA membership assessment is ongoing. Members must continuously meet the standards set by the FIOA Code of Conduct to maintain their certification. This continuous assurance creates meaningful and lasting benefits for consumers, employees, suppliers and businesses themselves.
FIOA takes a 360-degree approach to assessing business practices. Fairness is not limited to whether a customer “got a good price and good service on the day.” Instead, FIOA evaluates broader organisational behaviour, certifying businesses against holistic fairness criteria designed to support long-term, sustainable outcomes for all stakeholders.
We believe that businesses certified by the FIOA will become more trusted, respected, and sought after, particularly by customers who value ethically run organisations committed to fair, responsible, and transparent practices.
If you are a business that operates ethically and sustainably, and you want to contribute positively to your community and the environment, you may wonder how to demonstrate this commitment to others. By applying to become a member of the FIOA, you gain access to the FIOA certificate and badges, public recognition of your ongoing dedication to fairness, ethics, and sustainability. These symbols provide assurance to customers, employees, suppliers, and partners that your organisation can be relied upon to do the right thing.
